Once the new year panic settles, it's time to look at resolutions realistically. If I could, I'd like to write ten books, and a movie, and a mystery spy series. But let's face it, we can only fit so much in a year, a month, or a day. Writing takes time and a great deal of patience. When I'm asked how long it takes to write a novel, I honestly answer, a year. I may not actually have written every day in that year, because on the other days, I'm thinking over the plot and planning changes and edits. The year of writing is filled with highs and lows, doubts, and errors. It's hard to know if you're on the right path. Will the reader be as enthralled with the story as I am? Am I saying what they want to hear? Believe me, writers who write without the reader in mind are very few and far between. The most common refrain from authors is to write what you'd want to read. YES. But you also must write what others will want to read.
CHEERS to the new year! I'm planning on a new novel in the Nappily Series currently titled His and Hers for a September release. I'm also waiting for the all important movie news on the Nappily Ever After adaptation. It's been a long journey, we're so close. I'm still excited about my other projects under the pen name Toni Meyer and will keep you posted as to when you can expect a new book.

The promise of beautiful beaches, meditation, and massages lures Venus Parson to a relaxing woman's retreat. There she makes the unlikely connection with two women, Bunny and Elina, who become fast friends. The adventure for Venus takes a quick spiral off a cliff onto a deserted island where growth and rejuvenation of the heart and mind take on an entirely new meaning. The rescue effort comes slow giving Venus time to face her short comings and all the faults she'd conveniently blamed on others over the years. Once she learns how to deal with the turmoil on the island, she's ready to face her fears head on. This beloved series keeps getting better with every step Venus takes into new territory.
When I first wrote this book I never would've dreamed it would've touched so many lives. I honor the countless book signings and speaking engagements where ladies of every age would approach letting me know how reading the book changed how they felt about hair and relationships. Some had cut off their hair and felt new and amazing in their own light for the first time. I salute those women. They encouraged me to find my voice again and again with every Nappily book. #NappilyEverAfter is truly a classic, recommended reading in high schools and colleges all over the country. Telling our stories takes courage. No matter how hard it feels to put the words down on paper I know someone will be uplifted from these stories. That's why I keep writing. #inspiration is a two way street. I give what I get each time I hear the words Thank You. We are in this together. Loving ourselves takes practice and courage. I will continue my path and hope to see you along the way. You keep sharing your stories with me and I will keep sharing with you. #purpose #passion #TrishaRThomas #fridayreads
Every difficult moment is accompanied by an opportunity for personal growth and creativity. But in order to attain this growth and creativity, we must learn to let go of the past, recognize that ‘this too shall pass’ like everything else in life. And once they pass, all we’re left with are our unique experiences and the lessons learned to make a better attempt next time.
I believe in second, third, fourth, and even fifth chances. No one can say what magic number is the charm. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve attempted to throw in the towel. I give up. Why bother? Who needs it? Only to wake up fresh and renewed again. Every time we rise to see the sun come up, we’re given another chance.
That means, everyday, we get to start over. It’s never too late to change your path, switch directions. I’ve had at least five amazing careers. I stopped counting at five, but honestly, the dreams I’ve accomplished are pretty darn noteworthy. I designed Swatch watches (remember those?). I owned and managed a very hip Bridal Boutique and Tux shop. I taught Kindergarten. I taught Middle School. I wrote and published a novel series. I wrote scripts. My best life is still on the horizon.
Negative thinking creates negative results. Positive thinking creates positive results. Period. Positive thinking is at the forefront of every great success story. The mind must believe it can do something before it is capable of actually doing it.
You are the only one who can directly control the outcome of your life. And no, it won’t always be easy. Every person has a stack of obstacles in front of them.
Some forces are out of your control. The best thing you can do is do the best with what’s in front of you. Use the resources you have access to.
Wasting your time, talent and emotional energy on things that are beyond your control is a recipe for frustration, misery and stagnation. Invest your energy in the things you can change.
Here are a few tips to bump start your new life.
1) Surround yourself with people who are moving forward, not living in the past.
2) Make a list of what your talents are.
3) Enroll in a class that tests your aptitude.
4) Go to workshops, seminars, conferences to test the waters.
5) Practice positive thinking and take note of the results.
Don’t quit because you didn’t get it right on your first shot. And don’t waste your life fulfilling someone else’s dreams and desires. Follow your intuition and make a decision to never give up on who you are capable of becoming.
Nappily Entangled is the eighth book in the Nappily Series.
"I started writing Nappily Ever After while I was teaching 7th grade Language Arts. The kids were so mean to each other. I couldn't believe we were still doing this...talking about the pecking order of who had straight hair and measuring each other by our skin color."
